Urban Sound Exploration

We tend to look at the architecture of buildings in terms of their appearance and function. But we do not consider their acoustic importance except for theaters and cathedrals. I recently visited an abandoned factory. I brought with me a portable recorder. I also brought with me a kick drum pedal with a modified beater mallet and modified sticks appropriate beating on metal. I found that there was great musical potential in the various objects and machinery left behind. Here are a couple of sound bites from that visit.
