SK-1

This was an oil drum that I converted into what could be called a type of kick pan drum. A low note shape like that found in steel pan drums was hammered into the drum. A resonator made of sheet metal was attached to the inside of the drum to produce a bit more of a boom and clash sound. The goal was to create the bass sound of a bass pan drum but without a specific tone or note. I often recorded with a mic in the drum and a piezo contact mic attached to the resonator. I would either combine the two or use them separately depending on the recording. Sometimes it sounded good, sometimes it lacked adequate bass. This drum is still a work in progress. The SK-1 was one of the components of the SPK-1.
